Today Kinshasa woke up to yet another crisis - an attempted coup d'etat led by a renegade army officer! The only sign I saw of it was a lot of police on the street and a series of power cuts. Naturally, this meant being confined to my hotel (only for half a day this time) - I saw that the situation made the main headline on the BBC news! The rogue major and his friends were soon taken care of by President Kabila.
The rest of the day has been spent speculating about what happened and whether it was in fact a coup attempt - things are not always so obvious here in Congo!
