European Tour: 4 - 10 October
Here is the front of Shakespeare & Co bookshop in Paris. This is where I stayed during my stay in Paris. It is run by George Whitman, a 90-year-old Paris character from America. He has been running the shop since 1951. George lets people stay at the shop for free in return for a couple of hours work a day. The beds are located amongst the bookshelves on the two floors of the shop. See http://www.shakespeareco.org/

This is a garden is a nice place to spend an afternoon on a sunny day. It is not far from Gare d'Austerlitz and the Seine.
This is a clock at the Musee d'Orsay - an old train station and now an art gallery. The gallery houses many of the great Impressionist paintings - some of which can be seen below. See http://www.musee-orsay.fr/
This room used to be part of a hotel when the museum was a railway station - very grand!
When in Paris I also went to the Musee Marmottan which is where you can see lots of pictures by Monet. See http://www.marmottan.com/
This is a view of Montmartre from the top of the Centre Pompidou (see http://www.cnac-gp.fr/Pompidou/Accueil.nsf/tunnel?OpenForm) - the white church is Sacre Coeur built following the French defeat in the Franco-Prussian war of 1878.
Paris looks really good at night - especially by the river. This picture was taken on my favourite bridge in Paris - the Pont des Arts. The building with the dome is the Institute de France - at the other end of the bridge is the Musee du Louvre.
The banks of the Seine at night look really nice by the yellow light and the reflections in the water - one of my favourite places to walk in Paris...
This picture shows some interesting lake and rock formations - really unusual!
Here is the plane that I arrived back in Africa on at Entebbe airport, Uganda. This is where the famous Israeli commando raid to free some hostages took place in 1976. Entebbe is on the shores of Lake Victoria - the largest lake in the World and the source of the Nile. Pictures of the lake can be seen on my postings from mid-June.
My trip to Europe ended as it began - by helicopter. To get to my office I had to take two helicopters - by road the journey from the nearest international airport would take 2 days.
